These photos were produced during my involvement with the MAOU as part of CADS ‘Coletivo Artístico Dialética Sensoriais’ (Sensory Dialectic Artistic Collective). MAOU, an acronym for 'Movimento Artístico de Ocupação Urbana' (Artistic Movement of Urban Occupation) (2011), embodied a vision of collective artistic action within the city of São Paulo and surrounding areas. During the time I was part of the movement MAOU, I actively participated in the production of artistic interventions that transformed everyday urban spaces, engaging with the lived experiences of marginalised communities' inhabitants.
The MAOU movement proposes to forge new relationships with the city's lived environment, whether the participants are artists or not. Spanning a wide range of projects and collaborations, this movement sought to reshape the urban landscape into a canvas that reflected the rich tapestry of voices, stories, and struggles that often go unheard. During the interventions, MAOU organised various artistic activities such as theatre performances, graffiti, installations, and video production. By turning abandoned industrial spaces into venues for artistic expression and community engagement, MAOU's actions not only physically transformed these spaces but also instilled a sense of belonging and agency among community members.
